چکیده

The attentional demands of drawing require both local processing an object’s details and global its overall structure. In this study, we examined the extent to which artists have superior skills, how these skills relate artists’ ability draw realistically autistic-related traits, whether initially take a or approach drawing. Forty first-year college art students 41 nonart completed two tasks assessing processing. Participants that assessed their realistically, copying they showed preference for aspects object, Autism-Spectrum Quotient traits. We found outperformed on was related performance tasks. also were more likely than copy features in drawings. Finally, did not exhibit traits number unrelated processing, drawing, These results suggest flexibility allows them process information at level but globally.

Local and global processing in savant artists with autism.

We explored the hypothesis that an enhanced local processing style is characteristic of both art and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by examining local and global processing in savant artists with ASD. Specifically, savant artists were compared against non-talented individuals with ASD or mild/moderate learning difficulties (MLD), as well as artistically talented or nontalented students, on the ...

Local and global processing in blind and sighted children in a naming and drawing task.

This study investigated the spatial analysis of tactile hierarchical patterns in 110 early-blind children aged 6-8 to 16-18 years, as compared to 90 blindfolded sighted children, in a naming and haptic drawing task. The results revealed that regardless of visual status, young children predominantly produced local responses in both tasks, whereas the production of integrated responses emerged la...

Video game players show more precise multisensory temporal processing abilities.

Recent research has demonstrated enhanced visual attention and visual perception in individuals with extensive experience playing action video games. These benefits manifest in several realms, but much remains unknown about the ways in which video game experience alters perception and cognition. In the present study, we examined whether video game players' benefits generalize beyond vision to m...

Drawing Firmer Conclusions: Autistic Children Show No Evidence of a Local Processing Bias in a Controlled Copying Task

Drawing tasks are frequently used to test competing theories of visuospatial skills in autism. Yet, methodological differences between studies have led to inconsistent findings. To distinguish between accounts based on local bias or global deficit, we present a simple task that has previously revealed dissociable local/global impairments in neuropsychological patients. Autistic and typical chil...
